The Language of Flowers: Notes

Some flowers and plants have held symbolic meanings for centuries; the Victorians collected and codified these meanings into a language.

Since Rosethorn is a plant mage, I thought the language of flowers was particularly suitable for her. Rather than trying to develop new meanings, I simply chose some flowers from a pocket edition of The Language of Flowers. Meanings do vary from edition to edition.

Not all of the flowers in Rosethorn's garden would be blooming at the same time, of course, but Rosethorn naturally wished to plant a year-round garden.

If the language of flowers interests you and you would like to learn more, a search on Amazon.com for "The Language of Flowers" brings up numerous books on the subject, or you can always be cheap (as I am), and try your local library.
